Fiscal Cliffs and Debt Ceilings

"Fiscal Cliff" put in a much better perspective.

Lesson #1

US Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
Federal Budget: $3,820,000,000,000
New Debt:       $1,650,000,000,000
National Debt: $14,271,000,000,000
Recent Cuts:       $38,500,000,000

Let's remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

Annual family income:      $21,700.00
Money the family spent:    $38,200.00
New debt on credit card:   $16,500.00
Outstanding card balance: $142,710.00
Total budget cuts so far:      $38.50

Lesson #2

Let's say you come home from work and find there's been a sewer backup in your neighborhood and your home has sewage all the way to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do?
a) Raise the ceilings
b) Remove the shit

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.  -- Benjamin Franklin

Quote of the Day

“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.” - Adolph Hitler

Second Iceberg

Re-elect Obama .... because it's entirely possible that if the Titanic hit a second iceberg it not only may have not sank, but actually become a more luxurious and efficient ship!

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. -- John Adams

Quote of the Decade

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren.America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
-- Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

Violated

Exploiting rape victims to justify killing unborn babies.
Is this a new low for the Left?
Sadly, just business as usual. No crisis wasted, no victim unexploited. Monstrously sad.

Quote of the Day

"Liberals are always eager to ban guns, but even after the Oklahoma City bombing, you didn't hear them talk about banning fertilizer. That's probably just as well because sane people would have then been forced to point out that manure doesn't kill people; people kill people. One of the creepy things about liberals is that they only wish to discuss actions and inevitable consequences when the actions can be traced to conservatives. You never hear them reprimand parole boards, which are nearly always comprised of social workers, psychologists and other college degreed morons, when one of the felons they release murders or rapes another victim. You never hear liberals blaming people like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Ted Kennedy and Barack Obama, for bringing on the financial meltdown by insisting that home loans be given to people who couldn't come up with a down payment, all because they knew that the votes of those new homeowners could be so easily bought and paid for with the tax dollars of the solvent." --columnist Burt Prelutsky

Quote of the Day

Mike Huckabee, addressing some of the hostile, intolerant political officials: “I’d love to talk to them; I’d love to ask what government authority gave them the right to censor commerce in their communities because they disagreed with someone who worked there. The CEOs of Apple Computers, Starbucks, Ben and Jerry’s, Amazon all support same sex marriage, have given generously to it, but I still drink Starbucks; I use my iPhone and MacBook; I’ll order things on Amazon, and I’ll eat Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. I’m not buying their politics; I’m buying their products, and I think people need to quit being so ridiculously fearful that somebody might have a point of view that’s different than mine. I expect them to have a different one; I just expect them to treat each other with civility and a sense of respect.”

There is only one human right: To do as you damn well please. There is only one human duty: To live with the consequences.

Healthcare is NOT a "right"

Healthcare is NOT a "right"

My right to free speech does not impose a cost on someone else.
My right to bear arms does not impose a cost on someone else.
My right to own property does not impose a cost on someone else.
My right to practice my faith does not impose a cost on someone else.

Rights, by function, create a net gain for society, and do not cost more than its value in being retained by someone.

Entitlements, however, do.

Healthcare is not a right; it's a commodity.

Insurance

I'm sick of hearing about the supposed "women's health" controversy. I don't want to pay for your contraception. I also don't want to pay for ANYONE'S "preventative care." I think that is fair. Insurance is for emergencies, period, and your yearly checkup is not an emergency. Birth control is not an emergency. Wanting to stomp out a helpless life is also NOT an emergency. (Well, not to the aggressors. It is rather important to the unborn baby.) And don't even spew that bilge about the "cost of un-wanted preganancies" - in that case, I'm absorbing costs on behalf of the babies who CAN'T fend for themselves. You CAN. Get over it.
